The Very Spiritual Path of Not Eating Animals

I’ve always supported animal rights, but you have to admit.. it’s hard to give up that burger.

I got sober from drugs and alcohol in 2000. In the process of recovering I realized that from then on spirituality was going to be an important focus of my life—that it had to be, since the connection to a Higher Power was necessary to keep me sober and alive.

I didn’t realize that recovery would connect me to myself as well, to what was really inside me.

During the early part of my recovery I realized that spirituality could be an open field to play on. I grew up around Catholicism and I didn’t feel like it was that way at all when I was young. I realized that my Higher Power could be one of my own understanding—that I had a lot of room to explore.

So I started exploring. One day I was reading a passage written by a Buddhist monk…

Adventures in Poetry

I LOVE POETRY!! This is definitely worth reading…and re-reblogging, perhaps? XD

eclecticalli's avatarEclectic Alli

I have been granted a challenge,
in honor of Poetry Month,
to try and compose,
something different than rambling prose.

I don’t claim to be a poet,
but occasionally I like to try.
Sometimes the words will flow,
and the ideas will grow,
and I find myself enmeshed,
in the medium that works best,
to convey the scattered thoughts,
passing images.
Music without notes,
with space for dreams to fill.

As a child I thought,
all poems ought,
to do their best,
to reach and wrest,
to speak of dreams,
and flowery things.

I stretched my brain,
feeling half insane,
to find the words,
sometimes absurd,
to make the rhyme,
every time.

As time went on,
(the rhyming not quite gone),
I spread my wings,
and tried new things.
Exploring the ways,
I could alter a phrase,
in ways to convey,
what I was trying to say.

It is…

The Beauty of the Crescent Moon

I’m a bit of a junior philosopher (my friends look at me like I’m crazy when I spout my inner wisdom, I seem like the inpaitient type, not the thoughtful type) so this actually spoke to me in a way.

Ross Andersen's 'moonstagram' Ross Andersen’s ‘moonstagram’

Ross Andersen, deputy editor of Aeon magazine, on the crescent moon

GB: Tell me why you chose the crescent moon.

RA: When you asked me to pick something beautiful, I did a quick scroll through my Instagram, which has become my filing cabinet for beauty, and I noticed I had all these moon pictures, and that most were crescents. I have joked with my friends about my “moonstagrams” before, but this was borderline obsessive. Like in a cop show where they break into the killer’s apartment and find pictures of the victim everywhere.

Part of my moon love is dispositional. If you’re a nocturnal person like I am, the moon has a lot of appeal. It plays to what Don DeLillo called the “night side of the mind,” the creative state associated with magic and the poetic imagination. There is a duality to the moon that I…

A Celebration of Irish Women Poets

I love poetry, and this just reminded me of my Irish heritage, and how important it is.
Some people wont understand, and other people wont like it, but I don’t care. This is my blog, isn’t it?

Domestic Bliss

I place a jug of lavender on the table
to mask the smell of mould from under the fridge

while you draw nails to hammer with your fist.
Then I draw a hammer , and watch

as you try to lift it from the page.
by day it’s Mr Men, Mad Men, by night,

your father and I wishing we could be so bold.
you have no such wants, though sometimes I wonder

as you try to peer into Jack and Jill’s well
or climb the tiny ladder of your toy farm
to mend the roof of your miniature barn.

41 Things I’m Bitter About

Im only reblogging this for the pictures..lol

picSo I heard it was your birthday…

It is again that time of year when I get to celebrate all the people asking me stupid questions like, “What are you going to do today?” and “What kind of cake do you want?” and “What presents did you get?” and “How can I annoy you the most today on the day that you want to be annoyed the least?”.   “How can I make the day that you used to look forward to be the day you dread the most?”.  “What cheesy phrase can I spit out from my arsenal of cheesy phrases that will make you groan the most?” I have several other questions that I just can’t wait to hear, but I’m hoping that you are smart enough to figure out the point by now.  If not, I have a super deep hole you can jump in that will help…
